Speaking and School Visits

I'm happy to take part in all sorts of book events—school visits, book signings, library programs, workshops, and whatever else you might need! Having written both fiction and nonfiction for a variety of ages, I am willing and able to adapt my presentation to your area of interest.

HOW MUCH DOES A VISIT COST?
I will do my best to work within your budget, but here is a starting point: $150 for a 60-minute presentation or workshop (plus standard travel expenses if outside the Twin Cities metro area). That rate can be lowered for shorter presentations or if I will be doing multiple presentations in a day. (Keep in mind that this figure covers a lot of prep time, correspondence, time on the road, and so on.)

EVERY ENGAGEMENT IS DIFFERENT, so please feel free to email me to discuss the details. Really. I enjoy traveling and am eager to do more visits outside of Minnesota!

If you are considering a visit, you might find this speaking engagement checklist helpful. It includes most of the questions we'd want to address.

NOTE: If you want a visit or event related to The Everybody Club (with co-author Linda Hayen), please email me.

COMMENTS

"The staff and students have been commenting all day about the wonderful job you did in working with them. Thanks again for everything!"

"Thanks, again, for sharing your ideas and craft with our students.  You truly are a celebrity in their eyes."
—Talley Blazevic, media specialist, Zimmerman Elementary (MN)

“I loved the fact that she not only read a book to the students, but also shared with them the whole writing process from the beginning to the end. She also valued each student’s questions at the end of her presentation. That was a great encouragement to the aspiring writers in the group!”

“The letter she sent in advance helped students create a connection with Nancy before they met her.”

“When she read her books, the students were captivated!”

“She did a good job of explaining how everyday events can be ideas for stories to write.”

“Nancy stressed the fact that not everything she writes gets published and that she has to rewrite her stories also.
She stressed that kids should write their own stories just for fun.”

—Teachers in the SW-WC Service Cooperative in southern Minnesota

"Books are the plane, and the train, and the road.
They are the destination, and the journey. They are home."
